Udemy Office, Dublin.
Aim
To deliver a considered design creating an agile workspace which provides the expanding team flexibility, encourages collaboration & incorporates quiet spaces for calls, course creation and focused tasks.
Details
The 1500 square metre space in the new 2 windmill lane building was a basic shell with just raised access floor and exposed soffit. It required all services, finishes and fixtures to be fitted out for the tenant.
Following extensive research and conversations with the Udemy team a layout and scheme were proposed for the fit-out. The layout was composed of variety of spaces for focusing, socialising, learning, collaboration and course creation, designed to provide the team with ample options for their varying individual needs and the needs of a variety of teams within the business.
Materials palette
A muted palette was chosen along with a number of planting areas to create a calming, nurturing environment.
The calm palette was offset by the company brand colours which were carefully located throughout the space, subtly introducing the brand identity of the business.
Design concept
The concept for the space was borne out of Udemy’s brand and their desire to offer education to all no matter where the journey of life has led you.
Journeys became the inspiration for the design. Reflecting on physical places and the journey to get there, personal journeys of key teachers and students at Udemy and journeys through time inspired by history and the possibilities of the future. the development of a strong concept allowed the design to be anchored throughout design development and formed the basis for decisions on all aspects of the scheme throughout the project.
